Why These Stories?
The art of stories ... this is a tangible way to “soften old scar tissue, balm old wounds, and envision anew” (Clarissa Pinkola Estes). When I was going through infertility one of the only things that made me feel better was a phone conversation with a friend of a friend who’d been through it and told me even her closest friend did not get it and kept on saying: "Why don’t you just relax and have sex and it will happen?" (Well.. er …no, actually if you are riddled with endometriosis it might not happen). And I understand that DOES work for some people and I’m genuinely happy for them (genuinely). But, for me, when you’re desperate to have a child and you’re doing as much meditating and yoga and surrendering as you think you can and your’re going through invasive and expensive treatments, you just want someone who’se been down that hole and who knows the way out. In that time I wanted a witness to my longing who had longed in that same way.
